Join your fellow club members for a Bike Ride  on Sunday, August 22, on the Mohawk-Hudson Bike Trail from noon to 5:00 p.m.

We will meet at Lions Park, 3439 Rosendale Road, Niskayuna.  At Lions Park there is also a kayak/canoe boat launch onto the Mohawk River and public restrooms.

This is a free event, to provide an opportunity for fun and socializing.

Nearly every member of the Albany Ski Club owns a bike.   But you hardly know who, what type of bike they ride, or where or when they like to ride.  Wouldn’t it be nice to find some riding companions and make new friends with common interests? ASC is offering some opportunities to bring you together.

This is a  “meet and greet” for bikers of all ages, abilities, and interests, so we can get to know one another and share a great sport!

The ASC pedaling “meet and greet” will be from noon ‘til 5 pm.  We’ll set up a 10x10 canopy with the ASC banner as a gathering spot. When you arrive, come and say hello, update your membership data, then enjoy riding on a paved bike trail without the worries of vehicle traffic, and return to meet fellow ASC outdoor enthusiasts, all at your own leisure.

These opportunities are perfect for families, for singles, for couples, for groups of friends.  And get in some great off-season exercise for those skiing legs.

Share and discover new places to ride and maybe share and learn some tips of bicycle tuning and maintenance.  Become a ride leader for your favorite rides or rides you’d like to explore - its as simple as posting the location, date and time.

The Club will provide bottled water and hot dogs with all the fixings. (Click on the sign-up button above to help us plan for enough fixings.) You bring your bike(s), your own beverages, perhaps a dish or snack to share (nice but not necessary), and your comfortable camping chair to stay a while.

Haven't been on a bike in a while, no worries!  Some of us bike slower than others and that's o.k.!  Some of us have electric bikes for the extra oooomph!  We welcome riders of all skill level!

    Guests welcome.

    Raquette Lake Overnight Paddling Adventure

September 9-12, 2021, Don Streed will lead a four day, three night paddling and camping trip to Tioga Point primitive campground on Raquette Lake.

Raquette Lake is one of the largest lakes in the Adirondacks with 99 miles of shoreline, and it is one with a very limited number of private camps as so much of the shoreline is state land without road access.  Tioga point is a New York State Campground with only 15 lean-tos and 10 tent sites, accessible only by water.  After Labor Day NYS Parks does not take reservations for Tioga Point and sites are available on a first come-first serve basis.

Early September is a great time to be on Raquette Lake.  Tioga Point, the site or a former great camp which was lost to fire, offers great views of the Lake, the surrounding mountains, and spectacular sunsets!

On Thursday, we will paddle from the hamlet of Raquette Lake to Tioga Point and set up camp, returning on Sunday with wonderful memories.  Each day we will set out on paddling and/or hiking explorations determined by weather and wind.  We could paddle south and east up the historic Marion river, or paddle north to the portage and carry into Forked Lake, or paddle the South Inlet and hike to Great Camp Sagamore.  You can also try your hand at fishing for lake trout, brook trout small mouth bass or perch. Or just enjoy the sandy beach and the beautiful, peaceful surroundings.

Paddlers will be expected to supply and transport their own gear and provisions. Each person is responsible for providing, preparing, and cooking their own meals.  But of course, it’s nice to bring something to share.  There is no fee for the trip.

Sound interesting? Want to go?  For further details and questions answered, email Don Streed at Don has led trips to Tioga Point and is looking forward to another opportunity to share this favorite spot with new friends.
